Women in Golf

Growing the Game at Every Stage

Golf has always been a game built on patience, discipline, and connection and more women than ever are finding their place in it. From young girls picking up a club for the first time to moms, competitors, and lifelong players, women continue to shape and grow the game in meaningful ways. May is a great time to celebrate women in golf and recognize the many paths that bring people to the course.

More Women Are Playing (and staying!) in Golf

Women’s participation in golf has grown steadily over the years, not just at the professional level, but in everyday play. Many women come to golf through family, school teams, or a desire for an active, lifelong sport. Others return to the game later in life, discovering it as a way to stay active, challenge themselves, and spend time outdoors. Golf offers something rare: a sport that can evolve with you. It meets players where they are — whether that’s learning fundamentals, competing, or simply enjoying time on the course.

The Importance of Support and Access

Access to instruction, encouragement, and opportunity plays a major role in helping women and girls feel confident in the game. Supportive environments allow players to build skills at their own pace and develop a strong foundation.

Programs, scholarships, and junior opportunities help create pathways for girls who want to play competitively or continue golf beyond high school. At the same time, adult instruction helps women feel more comfortable stepping onto the course, joining leagues, or playing with confidence alongside family and friends.

Golf as a Shared Experience

For many women, golf is about more than performance. It’s about connection — with family members, playing partners, teammates, and communities.

Lessons can be a great way to:

  • Learn the game in a supportive setting

  • Build confidence and consistency

  • Share an activity with family members

  • Enjoy time outdoors while staying active

Golf doesn’t require a single “right” path. It can be competitive, social, instructional, or all of the above.

Supporting the Next Generation of Women Golfers

Encouraging girls to play golf helps build skills that extend far beyond the course — confidence, focus, resilience, and problem-solving. Scholarships and youth programs provide valuable support and open doors for young athletes who want to pursue the game further. Investing in girls’ golf helps strengthen the future of the sport and ensures that more players feel welcome and supported. And because I’ve seen first hand what scholarships can do for a kid and their passion, here are a few links you may want to check out if you’ve got a student-athlete on the girl’s golf team that’s interested in playing in college.
